Payroll Specialist

Our Finance team is growing and seeking a Payroll Specialist interested in working in a collaborative, fun, fast-paced working environment. In this role, you will work closely with our outsourced payroll company to process semi-monthly payroll for both salaried and hourly employees, accurately and on time. In addition, you will manage the payroll-related software and technology tools to ensure that payroll processes are accurate and efficient. An ideal candidate is detail-oriented, system-savvy and able to communicate clearly and accurately with employees and managers about payroll processes, and answer questions regarding paychecks, benefits and taxes.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Process payroll in a multi-state corporate environment
  • Establish and ensure accuracy of federal, state and local taxes, social security contributions, employee benefit contributions, fringe benefits, garnishments and other deductions of employee paychecks
  • Assist with balancing of payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Analyze and respond to inquiries from employees regarding paycheck amounts, deductions, leave accruals, direct deposit and other concerns
  • Research payroll tax payments and data discrepancies
  • Review employee job tracking timesheets for accuracy, and confirm employee & manager approval at the end of each payroll period
  • Run and distribute on-demand reports from the Insperity system. Reports to include: standard reports, semi-monthly payroll and YE/QE reports
  • Support system testing, including providing documentation, feedback and offering solutions to issues that may arise
  • Provide customer support to internal partners such as HR, Accounting and IT, as well as external vendors
  • Work on special projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Abilities 

  • Advanced knowledge of payroll applications and time & attendance systems
  • Strong Excel skills preferred (e.g. Pivot Table & VLOOKUP experience) and ability to work with large volumes of transactional data
  • Impeccable analytical and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated, flexible and able to adjust priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Possess a James Bond-like ability to remain cool under pressure

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting or related field required
  • 2-5 years of payroll and multi-state experience required
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) / Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
  • Experience with PEO Payroll Service companies (Insperity preferred)

Pay Scale:
$50,000 – $55,000 per year
