Technical Project Manager

As a Technical Project Manager, you will work within the Technology team to support and manage technical tasks and activities related to projects that include digital experiences or new R&D projects that include electronics, new software applications or unique hardware solutions. The impact is global and you will interact with all departments throughout the company, as well as coordinate across multiple countries and timezones.

The Technical Project Manager is an individual contributor (IC) role at OnQ. ICs are the lifeblood of our company and as such we have a career path that allows for growth. ICs can be as senior and as influential as managers. The key difference is that they are not directly responsible for managing the careers of others. 

This position is a full-time, in-office position in Akron, OH and will report directly to the Technical Product Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate internal technical resources and third parties towards the flawless execution of technical projects from prototype kickoff to in-store delivery
  • Ensure proper technical documentation and specs are provided to the Product Manager when a project is approved for prototype as well as when it enters production
  • Define and manage on project technical scopes, budget and timelines alongside Product Managers
  • Coordinate effectively with all departments relevant to a project, managing and sharing technical specifications and tasks
  • Support Product Managers on alleviating roadblocks, delays and offer alternative solutions to meet project success criteria and customer’s expectations
  • Support sales and estimation departments on bids, costs and time estimates
  • Act as a bridge between OnQ and clients to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Support, develop and manage technical documentation (wiring diagrams, instruction and troubleshooting guides, and technical manuals)
  • Monitor and drive progress of technical tasks to stay on schedule
  • Manage and validate changes to the technical project scope, project schedule and project costs along the project lifecycle
  • Identify, report and escalate project issues/risks to management as needed
  • Oversee and ensure testing of technical experiences
  • Provide support during installation and after deployment
  • Use and support the development of internal tools to support technical setups and maintenance of tech-enabled displays and experiences

 Required Skills & Abilities

  • 5+ years of proven experience in project management in the design, engineering or retail sector
  • Experience working with different operating systems including Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, BrightSign, Linux
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing methods particular to plastics, woodworking and machined & fabricated metal processes
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and of project management tools such as Smartsheet, Jira, Basecamp or similar tool
  • Professional written and interpersonal skills are essential when communicating with customers and clients
  • Experience installing and configuring computer systems and applications
  • Understanding of common product warehousing, inventory and shipping practices
  • Experience with managing onshore and offshore contract manufacturers including purchasing and cost negotiation
  • Working knowledge of QA and QC practices common to product manufacturing
  • OnQ requires full COVID vaccination as a condition of employment
  • Bonus: Experience in building and scaling cloud-based backend solutions
  • Bonus: Network experience with WAN, LAN and cellular experience preferred
  • Bonus: PMP / PRINCE II certification

College degree or equivalent work experience

Pay Scale:
$85,000 -$95,000 per year
